SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2019 LATE OPENING AT 12PM The museum hours are adjusted to 12pm-5pm on Saturday, October 19, to accommodate the Baltimore Marathon.

10:00am – 5:00pm (CLOSED MONDAYS*)
Please note that our last ticketed admission is at 4:30pm.

CLOSED: Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day

*Open annually on Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as AVAM's celebration of all of life's possibilities! Free admission & special programming for all!

Saturdays at 2:30PM - FREE! AVAM offers a drop-in guided tour every Saturday at 2:30pm with one of our fabulous volunteer docents, FREE with museum admission. Hear the stories of our visionaries and their artwork! The docent will cover permanent collection as well as special exhibitions. No need to RSVP. Just meet the docent in AVAM’s main building near the base of the stairs.


Welcome! The front entrance is the accessible entrance.

Mobility Aids The museum and its 1.1-acre Wonderland campus are accessible to wheelchairs and those with limited mobility. Wheelchairs are available free of charge at our Visitor Services desk on a first-come, first-served basis.

Service Animals Service animals are welcome in the museum.

For visitors who are hearing impaired Films featured in AVAM’s galleries are either captioned or printed transcripts are available upon request at the Visitor Services desk.

Parking Metered parking on Covington Street and Key Highway are handicapped accessible. Please note that the meters are in effect 24 hours, 7 days a week. Also, be sure to read and follow all signs posted by Baltimore City Parking Authority.

The American Visionary Art Museum is located at the base of historic Federal Hill, adjacent to downtown Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

By Car:

From New York / Philadelphia and Points North

Follow 1-95 South through the Ft. McHenry tunnel (stay in right hand lane through the tunnel) to exit 55/Key Highway - at the bottom of the ramp make a right at the stop light onto Key Highway. The museum is 1.5 miles ahead on the corner of Key Highway and Covington street (on the left, across the street from The Rusty Scupper restaurant).

From Washington, D.C. and Points South

Follow I-95 North to exit 55/Key Highway. At the bottom of the ramp make a left onto Key Highway. The museum is 1.5 miles ahead on the corner of Key Highway and Covington Street (on the left, across the street from The Rusty Scupper restaurant).

From Harrisburg / York and Points Northwest

Follow I-83 South (Jones Falls Expressway) to Lombard St light. Turn right onto E. Lombard St. Turn left onto Light Street. Slight left onto Key Highway (landmark: Maryland Science Center on left hand corner). AVAM is less than a half mile ahead on the corner of Key Highway and Covington Street (on the right, across the street from The Rusty Scupper restaurant).

From The Sea:

Take The Baltimore Water Taxi to Landing 4 (at The Rusty Scupper). Follow the walkway up to Key Highway (about a 2 minute walk!) and you can't miss the museum. More Water Taxi info at:

Walking From The Inner Harbor / Baltimore Visitor Center:

Follow Harbor Promenade toward MD Science Center. Turn left at Science Center, continuing to follow the promenade until you reach The Rusty Scupper. Follow sign up stairs & path to Key Hwy. Museum is across the street. Cross safely & behold the sights and wonders!

Public Transporation:

Charm City Circulator - FREE!

Take the FREE Charm City Circulator to American Visionary Art Museum (Stop 404 on Banner Route) at Key Hwy & Covington St. Continue a few more steps up Key Hwy toward Covington Street (AVAM is at corner of Key Hwy & Covington - just look up!).
